Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that Chelsea are “open” to signing a new striker in the 2024 January transfer window.

Pochettino expressed that the decision on possibly signing a new forward in the winter transfer window will be analyzed by the owners, the club's sporting director, and the coaching staff.

Chelsea splashed the cash in signing Nicolas Jackson during the 2023 summer transfer window, however, the Senegalese haven't failed to meet up to the huge expectations heaped on him.

Jackson joined the Blues from Villarreal on July 1, 2023, for a fee of €37 million, and he has scored 7 goals and provided no assist in 15 appearances across all competitions.

Chelsea have found it difficult scoring goals this campaign, with a handful of chances created in every game being thrown away.

The Stamford Bridge club have over the years had problems with regard to getting a scoring striker, as only a few strikers have delivered at the club.

Romelu Lukaku, who is currently on loan at AS Roma, was the last high-profile striker signed by the club, but he also couldn't cut it following his return to the team.

Nicolas Jackson came in without much fanfare, as there were mixed feelings on what he could bring to the club.

It must be stated that he hasn't utterly been a poor signing so far, but he seemingly doesn't have the qualities needed to deliver for a team as big as Chelsea.

There is an enormous goal-scoring responsibility on his shoulder, and so far, he hasn't lived up to the billing.

Speaking on the possibility of signing a new striker in the 2024 January transfer window, Mauricio Pochettino said:

“It's something we are going to analyze between the owners, the sporting director, and of course the coaching staff”.

“If we decide to go for some players that can improve or can add some qualities that maybe we don't have, or maybe to keep the same squad. I think we are really open”.

Chelsea have had a poor start to the 2023/24 season, and that can be attributed to their frailties in attack and defense.

They have a +2 goal difference in the Premier League, scoring 22 goals and conceding 20 in 13 matches this term.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Stamford Bridge club have set their eyes on Napoli poacher Victor Osimhen.

The Blues have reportedly made Osimhen their priority target for the 2024 January transfer window, and they are ready to break the bank to land the Nigerian.

Victor Osimhen has been courted by several clubs in Europe in the past 12 months, including; Manchester United, Real Madrid, and even Arsenal.

The 24-year-old has scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists in 11 appearances for Napoli in a pretty turbulent campaign.
