Chelsea are through to the Carabao Cup Semi-final after a dramatic late equalizer from Mykhailo Mudrky saw the Blues defeat Newcastle 4:2 on penalties.

The Blues who earned back-to-back victory for the first time under head coach Mauricio Pochettino last weekend after defeating Sheffield United 2:0, started the game on the front foot.

Newcastle however broke the deadlock on the 16th minute after a catastrophic error from the Chelsea defender gifted the Toons their first goal, Badiashile with an absolute howler saw Callum Wilson stole the ball before slotting it past Petrovic.

Raheem Sterling was the most dangerous player for the Blues in the opening 45 minutes as he continued to terrorize the Newcastle defense with his pace.

The ex-Manchester City man's shot was blocked on the line by Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes as the blues poured forward searching for an equalizer.

Pochettino was forced to make a change as Enzo Fernandez couldn't continue the game, and Armando Broja was brought on to replace the Argentine.

After their goal, the Newcastle team barely threatened the Chelsea goal as the Blues dominated possession.

Chelsea substitute Armando Broja thought he had given the Blues the equalizer but the goal was ruled out for offside by referee Jarred Gillett.

The first half ended with Newcastle leading through Callum Wilson's goal.

A host of changes were made at the start of the second half by Both managers as Malo Gusto was brought on in the place of Levi Colwill, while Emil Krafth was replaced by Kieran Trippier.

Anthony Gordon was the next to leave the pitch apparently picking up an injury that saw Matt Ritchie come on in his place.

Nickolas Jackson did hesitate to shoot after a neat pass from Armando Broja picked out the Senegalese forward but his efforts just missed the left side of the post.
Eddie Howe's team failed to muster any meaningful attack as they were pegged back after trying to protect their lead.

Christopher Nkunku made his long-awaited debut as he came on for Nickolas Jackson in the 69th minute, he was greeted by a round of applause from the Stamford Bridge fans.

The Blues would eventually get their equalizer as Conor Gallagher's cross was poorly cleared by Kieran Trippier with the ball falling to Mykhailo Mudrky who placed the ball past the outstretched hands of Martin Dubravka to level the score at 1:1.

After the 95th minutes were up, referee Jarred Gillett blew his whistle for full time as the game went into penalty.

Chelsea converted all their spot kicks from Cole Palmer, Gallagher, Mudrky, and Christopher Nkunku.

Petrovic who was standing in for the injured Robert Sanchez was the hero of the penalty shootout as he smartly saved Matt Ritchie's spot kick before Kieran Trippier placed his spot kick wide off the left-hand post.

Chelsea won the penalty shootout 4:2 as they progressed to the Carabao Cup semi-final.
