Chelsea's players will share a moderate bonus amount of only £500,000 if they win the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

If the Blues win the Carabao Cup, it will be the first trophy of the Todd Boehly/Clearlake capital era.

The club's new owners have succeeded in cutting down the wage bill despite humongous spending in the transfer market since the acquisition of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in 2022.

The new owners have additionally kept a tight reign on the bonuses to be offered the players, with the squad set to share just £500,000 if they triumph over Liverpool.

This sum is far less than the £1.6 million shared by Manchester United's players after they won the Carabao Cup final in February 2023, with each player receiving about £65,000 each.

The Chelsea bonus scheme is for every player who has played in this season's Carabao Cup, with the percentage each player will receive depending on the number of minutes they have played.

If the amount is divided equally, each player in the Blues' 25-man squad would receive about £20,000 - a figure that is less than a day's wages in most cases.

Mauricio Pochettino's side's FA Cup winning bonus is more generous at £1 million, which acknowledges the bigger prize money on offer for winning the oldest cup competition in the world.

The FA have improved prize money hugely in recent years and the winners of this season's competition will receive £4 million, while Carabao Cup winners receive only £100,000 from the English Football League.

This indeed indicates the reason why most Premier League clubs heap massive bonuses on performances in the Champions League - either winning the competition or basically qualifying for it.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will be looking to put a good taste to what has been a sour season, with the team languishing in the 10th position on the Premier League table, with 35 points from 25 games.

The Blues have had a good run to the final, defeating Newcastle United in the quarter-final on penalties (4-2) after playing out a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

They followed that up with a 6-2 win over Middlesbrough in the semi-final and certainly Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping his side can clinch the trophy in Wembley on February 25, 2024.

The last time Chelsea were in the Carabao Cup final was in the 2021/22 season and they also battled against Liverpool, with the game ending 0-0 in regulation time and extra time.

However, Jurgen Klopp's side came out victorious 11-10 on penalties, with on-loan Kepa Arrizabalaga missing the decisive spot kick.

Both clubs have met twice this season in the league, with the Reds sharing the spoils with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (1-1), before smashing the Blues 4-1 in the second leg at Anfield in January 2024.

It will be fascinating to see where the pendulum will swing on Sunday, with Liverpool also aiming to win the trophy.
