COP28: Nigerians furious at President Tinubu over 1,411 entourage sent to Dubai amid economic hardship

Nigerians have expressed their dissatisfaction over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's approved list of entourage to the Dubai Climate Change Summit called Conference of the Parties (COP28). A total of 1,411 people were on the approved list of the entourage to represent Nigeria at the summit which many tagged as unreasonable.

Their expenses were paid for out of the scarce resources in Nigeria which should have been channeled into improving the current state of the Nigerian economy. Reports show that 589 out of the 1,411 entourage were Government workers who directly worked under President Tinubu's administration. Others were under the Ministry of Information and other federal ministries in the country. A close perusal of the list indicated that the majority of the entourage had no business discussing climate change issues because it wasn't their area of expertise.

However, an analysis of the profession of the entourage revealed that a few experts who appeared to be genuine climate change activists were sponsored by private non-profit organizations.
Angry Nigerians claimed that the entourage leveraged the climate change summit to acquire the United Emirates Visa so they could spend the holidays in Dubai.

The members of the People's Democratic Party(PDP) also termed President Tinubu's action as "over-bloated," and claimed that the 1,411 delegates sponsored on the trip to Dubai was unnecessary. PDP's National Publicity Secretary said, "The Tinubu-led APC administration is wasteful, frivolous and reckless in the application of the scarce resources of the nation, especially at a time Nigerians are yearning for prudent management of resources to achieve the desired infrastructural regeneration, job creation and revamping of the economy."

These are some of the pictures taken at the event.

Yes, Toke Makinwa was among the entourage sent to Dubai. I covered the topic in the post below.
