Prior to the coup, Mohamed Bazoum has been held by the military since July 19th and international bodies and countries have since called for his release but the military chose to ignore.

Since the military coup d'etat in Niger which overthrew the civilian government of Mohamed Bazoum, international bodies and other countries have taken necessary steps to restore democracy in the country.

The West African body ECOWAS has suspended relations with Niger and also threatened to use force if they fail to reinstate Bazoum as president in seven days.

The African Union (AU) has also given the military government a 15-day ultimatum to restore power to the duly elected president Mohamed Bazoum.

Other international organizations like the UN and the United States of America have also stepped in.

As a result, supporters of the present military government in Niger have taken to the streets to protest against the intervention of ECOWAS, especially President Tinubu who announced that all electricity supplies to Niger be cut off if they fail to reinstate Bazoum.

There is a video of Nigeriens carrying a poster of president Tinubu while chanting Ebola Tinubu declaring that his government is illegitimate. Therefore, he has no right to interfere in the affairs of another country.
