Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq has been ruled out of the 2023 African Cup of Nations after picking up an injury in a friendly match against Guinea.

He was taken off in the friendly match against Guinea. Many saw it as a precautionary measure. However, since then, the big striker has been finding it difficult to participate in training.

He was waved aside to undergo further scans on his knee.

After a further scan of the footballer's knee, it was revealed that he suffered a knee injury.

The striker was picked alongside Victor Boniface, Victor Osimhen, and Kelechi Ihenancho to lead the Super Eagles attack for the 2023 AFCON.

Paul Onuachu is set to replace the injured Umar Sadiq

It was announced via the Super Eagles verified social media account that Paul Onuachu will be replacing the Real Sociedad striker.

Onuachu missed the last African Cup of Nations due to a knee injury. The striker will be a better addition to the Super Eagles due to his strength and creativity.

He was initially named as part of the 40-man squad, but he failed to meet up with Jose Peseiro's 25-man squad.

The player is in fine form this season, scoring nine goals in 15 appearances.

Victor Boniface, Wilfred Ndidi, and Sadiq Umar have been withdrawn from the Super Eagles squad.

Victor Boniface was replaced by Terem Moffi, Wilfred Ndidi was replaced by Royal Antwerp midfielder AlHassan Yusuf, and finally, Umar Sadiq was replaced by Paul Onuachu.
