Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a brace against Al Ittihad on Tuesday, December 26, in the Saudi Arabia Pro League to become the leading scorer in 2023 with 53 goals.

The former Real Madrid goal machine scored twice from the penalty spot as his side destroyed Al Ittihad 5-2 where Ronaldo reunited with former teammate Karim Benzema who joined the Riyad based team during the summer transfer window.

At the beginning of the match, the hosts opened the scoring with a goal from Hamdallah in the 14th minute.

However, just five minutes later, Al Nassr were given a penalty, which Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up for. The former Manchester United convincingly converted it. Additionally, Ronaldo saw another penalty in the 68th minute of play and once again converted it.

Talisca sent Al Nassr ahead in the 38th minute but Hamdallah equalised six minutes into the second half.

Cristiano Ronaldo's second goal took him to the top-scorer chart in 2023 with 53 goals.

Al Ittihad were reduced to 10 men in the 66th minute when Fabinho was dismissed and Sadio Mane struck in the 75th and 82nd minutes to seal the victory for Al Nassr.

Ronaldo's two goals in the 14th and 68th minute of play mark his 52nd and 53rd in 2023. No other footballer has scored more than him so far in 2023.

However, the former Juventus forward has scored 23 goals and provided ten assists in 22 matches for Al Nassr so far in the 2023-2024 season. Ronaldo is also the top scorer in the Saudi Professional League, having gathered 19 goals.

As 2023 approaches its final phase, the Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo has become the year's top goalscorer with 53 goals, surpassing Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe on that list.

Scoring a brace against 10-man Al-Ittihad, Ronaldo jumped past the duo with his 17th Saudi Pro League goal of the season.

Following Ronaldo's two goals, Al Nassr took to their official X (formally known as Twitter) page to celebrate their captain, the team wrote; "He surpassed Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane, who scored 52 goals each."

Harry Kane of Bayern Munich and PSG's Kylian Mbappe have scored 52 goals each, while Erling Haaland of Manchester City has managed to gather 50 goals

But the Norwegian striker Haaland is likely to make two Premier League appearances in the remainder of the year as Manchester City are scheduled to face Everton on Wednesday, December 27, and Sheffield United on Saturday, December 30.
