Cristiano Ronaldo has given a cryptic reaction to being excluded from the International Federation of Football History and Statistics' top 10 footballers in 2023

Despite currently being the highest goalscorer in 2023, with 53 goals and 15 assists in 58 appearances for club and country, Ronaldo was omitted from IFFHS's top 10 players for the year.

The list included predominantly players plying their trade in Europe or at some point in the year played in the European continent, with no player being represented from other continents, including; South America, Asia, North America, and Africa.

In the past 12 months, there has been an influx of top players to Asia, particularly the Saudi Pro League, with star names like; Neymar, N'Golo Kante, and Karim Benzema to name a few playing in the league.

Cristiano Ronaldo has once again stirred the hornet's nest with his reaction to being excluded from the top 10.

Ronaldo reacted on Instagram about the omission with a laughter emoji alongside a see-no-evil monkey emoji: “”.

Several connotations could be drawn from the exclusion of Cristiano Ronaldo from the list despite his sublime showing in 2023.

It could tell how the league is perceived globally or the utter disregard for players playing outside Europe.

The top 3 players who competed for the 2023 Ballon d'Or award all made it to the top 10, notably; Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi.

Additionally, Manchester City had the most players represented in the top 10, with Erling Haaland, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva present in the rankings.

Harry Kane is the only Bayern Munich player on the list, and he also represented Tottenham Hotspur for most parts of 2023, before moving to Bavaria.

Anyway, Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr on January 1, 2023, following his acrimonious exit from Manchester United.

He has been remarkable since joining the Knights of Najd, scoring important goals and providing breathtaking performances.

Ronaldo has taken his brilliance from the European continent to the Asian continent, and it isn't shocking that he will likely end 2023 as the top scorer.

Cristiano Ronaldo also guided Al Nassr to the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023, scoring an impressive 6 goals to finish the tournament as top scorer.

The IFFHS top 10 list is done based on points, with Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez amassing the least points in the rankings.

It is left to be seen the trajectory that the International Federation of Football History and Statistics will follow in 2023, with several noticeable top names also playing outside Europe.
