Crystal Palace are optimistic of securing the services of Steve Cooper without any monetary compensation to Nottingham Forest.

This is in the midst of developing uncertainty regarding the managerial position of Roy Hodgson.

However, the Eagles could battle some difficulty trying to get Cooper back into management quickly following his dismissal from the Tricky Trees earlier this month.

Reports indicate that Steve Cooper isn't keen on returning to management quickly, as he wants to take a short break from football.

Roy Hodgson's role as manager of Crystal Palace has come under fire in recent months after the Eagles went on a run of 8 matches without a win.

They face Brentford next up in the Premier League on Saturday, December 30, 2023, a game that could decide the fate of Hodgson at Selhurst Park.

There are reports that administrators of Crystal Palace feel that a change is needed, while there is also a section that wants Hodgson to remain in charge of the team.

Steve Cooper's dismissal from Nottingham Forest in the previous week has resulted in the Eagles weighing up the opportunity to secure the services of the Welshman.

Cooper has been seen as a potential successor to Roy Hodgson, with the young manager showing some of his managerial qualities at Swansea City and Nottingham Forest.

It has been said that Steve Cooper is not subject to a period of gardening leave by Nottingham Forest, and this implies that he can be appointed by any club without a compensation fee.

Reports indicate that Crystal Palace administrators are hoping to see Roy Hodgson conclude the season before a young manager is appointed to stir the club forward with his philosophy.

However, Cooper appears to be an available option, and the poor form of the Eagles also looks to be a driving factor regarding the move.

As aforementioned, the appointment of Steve Cooper will depend heavily on whether the 44-year-old is keen on returning to management.

Ipswich manager, Kieran McKenna, has also been penciled down as a potential name to replace Roy Hodgson.

Paddy McCarthy, who works as the assistant manager, looks to have impressed the backroom staff of Crystal Palace and as such he could be handed the senior job in an interim basis.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace sit 15th on the Premier League table, with 18 points from 19 matches, winning 4 games, drawing 6 and losing 9.

The Eagles are 7 points adrift of mid-table Chelsea, who have amassed 25 points so far, and they are also 3 points away from the drop zone.

Crystal Palace finished 11th on the Premier League table last season, with 45 points from 38 league matches.

Roy Hodgson will be hoping to change the fortunes of his team around and get them back into possibly sneaking a European spot next season through the UEFA Europa Conference League.
