DANGOTE TO TRANSPORT REFINED PRODUCTS BY SEA TO EASE PRESSURE ON ROADS

In a strategic move, the Dangote Group has announced plans to transport refined petroleum products via sea routes to alleviate road congestion and improve the distribution of products across Nigeria and other African countries. This initiative was highlighted by Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, Senior Adviser to the Group President on Special Projects and Strategic Relations, during a statement on September 29, 2024.

As part of this plan, the construction of a jetty within the Lekki Free Zone is already underway, intended to facilitate bulk cargo shipments from Dangote’s refinery. Wali-Abdurrahman noted that by exporting products to African countries through the seaport, the company aims to reduce reliance on Nigeria's road networks. She added that the jetty will enable Dangote Group to distribute refined petroleum products more efficiently along the Nigerian coastline.
In addition to the refinery project, the Dangote Group, which is a major sponsor of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s annual trade fair, drew significant attention from attendees. Many explored the company’s other business units, including Dangote Fertiliser, Dangote Sugar, NASCON (Dangote Salt), and Dangote Cement.
At the trade fair, participants expressed interest in the employment and business opportunities presented by Dangote Refinery. Some attendees, like cement dealer Sale Sagir, were keen on expanding their business ventures into other Dangote products.
Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman also discussed Dangote Group’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, highlighting the company's decade-long process of converting a third of its fleet to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
ACCI President, Chief Emeka Obegolu, praised the Dangote Group for its role in Nigeria’s industrialization, acknowledging the company's contribution to the country’s tax revenues, which support infrastructure development and social programs.

This move to transport products by sea is set to enhance Dangote’s ability to meet growing demands, support export initiatives, and reduce the strain on Nigeria’s road transport systems.
