Ahmed Idris, the suspended Accountant General of the Federation, has been released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Anti-corruption authorities detained Idris for his role in a previously reported N174 billion scam. Idris was released on bail from the custody of an anti-corruption agency on Wednesday evening and reunited with his family. "The suspended Accountant General is free on bail," stated EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren on Wednesday night.

On May 16, 2022, EFCC officers arrested Idris in connection with series of fraud cases estimated at more than N84 billion.

Idris was suspended three days after his arrest by Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning., so that he could face his investigations.

According to recent reports, during interrogation, Idris gave names, company names, and a large sum of money, which is currently under investigation.

He also confessed and presented evidence of cash, withdrawals, and deposits in both national currencies as a foreigner. The EFCC arrested two people last week: Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara State, and Anthony Yaro, President and CEO of Finex Professional.

Interim AGF Anamekwe Nwabuoku, who was appointed following the suspension of Ahmed Idris, is also under investigation over allegations of financial misconduct, EFCC stated.

Overpaying himself while serving in previous ministries and offices is one of the allegations made against him. He was also accused of defrauding the government's integrated financial management system, which is used to pay federal employees' salaries.

The source explained that some of the alleged violations occurred when Nwabuoku was director of finance and accounting at the Department of Defense.
