The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has issued a warning to Nigerians to avoid buying and selling votes in the country's electoral procedures.

The Secretary to the Commission, Dr. George Ekpungu, made the call in Abuja on Friday while greeting delegates from the Civil Society Partners on Electoral Reform, CISPER, who paid a courtesy visit to the EFCC.

The Secretary emphasized the importance of every leadership recruitment process in the country and urged Nigerians to refrain from selling their votes and futures to the highest bidder during elections.

He praised CISPER for stepping up to work with the EFCC to combat the threat of vote buying and selling, and urged more well-intentioned Nigerians to join the Commission in combating the country's economic and financial crimes.

The EFCC, according to Ekpungu, would continue to work with stakeholders to educate the public about the hazards of economic and financial crimes, corruption, vote-buying and selling, and other vices.

Ariyo-Dare Atoye, the delegation's head, said his group would like to work with the EFCC to combat the threat of vote buying and selling during elections.

"We are in the Commission as a civil society to remind you that it is your obligation, since we know you are devoting a lot of resources and attention to pursuing those who have stolen our common wealth."

"We believe that if we can handle some difficulties at the recruitment level, we will not have leaders who are looters," he said.
