Senator Ike Ekweremadu, former Deputy Senate President, has denied ever agreeing to give up his gubernatorial ambition and work for Mr. Peter Mba.

Ekweremadu, who is running for governor of Enugu, is currently in court attempting to have the list used for the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) primary election in the state declared invalid.

Senator Jim Nwobodo, a former Governor of the old Anambra State, told journalists on Tuesday that he had met with the lawmaker on several occasions and that he had agreed to toe the path of peace and work with Mba, whom he described as the right person to succeed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Ekweremadu, on the other hand, has come out to deny ever making such a concession.

In a statement signed by Hon. Charles Asogwa, Director-General of the Ikeoha Campaign Organisation, he stated that Nwobodo's claims should be dismissed.

"Our attention has been drawn to a news report in which a statement attributed to His Excellency, Senator Jim Nwobodo, to the effect that Senator Ike Ekweremadu has adopted and stepped down for Barr. Peter Mbah as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general election," the brief statement reads. "This is incorrect and should be ignored."
