A Fake American Soldier has been sentenced to 2 Years in Jail in Kaduna State. It was the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) who secured his conviction. This incident occured on Monday, the 20th of November 2023. The fake soldier has been identified as Jesse Joshua Kassah. He is now set to serve his 2 year term in Jail.

It was the Justice of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna, who is Justice Darius Khobo that sentenced the defendant to jail. This was after he had pleaded guilty to the charge read against him. A one-count charge which bordered on impersonation was proffered on him after he was arraigned in court by the EFCC, Kaduna Command.

Jesse Joshua Kassah is also known as Devaun Smith Wayne. He claimed to be Devaun who is a USA military person. He tried to deceive a woman named Caitlin Morgan on social media by impersonating this soldier. His crimes were revealed to be punishable under 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017. He pleaded guilty to his crimes and was then sentenced.

The charge against him read “That you, Jesse Joshua Kassah (a.k.a Devaun Smith Wayne), (M) between January to October, 2023 at Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, committed an offence, to wit; falsely presented yourself as Devaun Smith Wayne; a USA military personnel and ticket salesman on Facebook (an online social media application) to one Caitlin Morgan and which pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017”.

The Justice pronounced a 2 year imprisonment sentence and also gave him an option of N150,000.00 as fine. The court also seized his Samsung Galaxy A02 phone as this phone was the device he used to commit this crime.
