Former Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick is reportedly in close discussions with FC Barcelona as a potential replacement for Xavi Hernandez, who is leaving the club this summer.

What happened?

Xavi Hernandez announced that he would be stepping down as the Spanish club manager in the summer following his team's disastrous performance during the first quarter of the league season.

Since his announcement, FC Barcelona have been in search of a new manager and it is said that Hansi Flick appears to be willing to fill the void.

However, according to an insider, the German tactician is showing his commitment to getting the position by taking Spanish lessons to prepare him for the position.

The 59-year-old has been out of club football since stepping down as Bayern Munich manager in June 2021.

German reporter, Florian Plettenberg confirmed that Hansi Flick is confident in securing the Barcelona job.

Speaking on the Daily Briefing, He said; "Flick is already learning Spanish".

It was also revealed by Flick's new agent Pini Zahavi, who is a close friend of Barcelona president Joan Laporta that the German tactician has numerous supporters pushing for the move.

And as Florian Plettenberg explains, several Barcelona players are hoping that the 59-year-old is given the role.

He said; "Flick himself would also prefer to take on the job at FC Barcelona, where Xavi is leaving in the summer".

He (Plettenberg) further clarified that Zahavi recently spent several days in Barcelona and met Laporta to talk to him about Flick.

Agent Zahavi also disclosed that Hansi Flick had called Pep Guardiola to discuss the club's system and condition at Barcelona.

Should Hansi Flick secure the move to Barcelona, he would be quick to get to life with familiar players including Ilkay Gundogan and Marc-André ter Stegen who were part of the manager's squad during his time as Germany's national team coach, and Lewandowski who is among his treble-winning team during his spell at Bayern in 2019/2020 season.

Barcelona are currently third in La Liga, eight points behind league leaders Real Madrid and also sitting one point behind second-placed Girona.

What's next for Barcelona?

Following their recent success over Napoli in the UEFA Champions League, the Spanish powerhouse will shift attention to their next game in La Liga where they'll face Atletico Madrid on Sunday, March 17.
