Former Minister, Bello Maitama passes away at 76 years old

A former Nigerian minister, whose name is Alhaji Bello Maitama Yusuf has passed away just recently. This man was also a former senator who served from 1999-2007. He passed away in the early hours of Friday, October 13, 2023. He died in Kano state at the age of 76.

It was a friend of the family of the deceased, Alhaji Hussaini Dalhatu, who confirmed Alhaji Maitama's death to journalists in Kano state. He revealed the funeral prayer of the Sardauna Dutse was going to take place at the Emir of Kano’s palace.

Bello Maitama Biography
Bello Maitama was born in April 1947 in Gwaram, Jigawa State. His exact date of birth isn't revealed. He served as a minister in various ministries in different years.

In 1979, he served as the minister of interior and then in 1982, he served as the minister of commerce. He was appointed by he Nigerian President then, Shehu Shagari as Minister of Interior and this was in October 1979. He was only 32 years old when he was appointed and this made him the youngest member of the federal executive council in the Second Republic.

From here he served in the Ministry of Social Welfare, Youth, Sports and Culture in September 1981 before he served as the Ministry of Commerce in February 1982. Between 1999 and 2007 he was elected into the Nigerian Senate. He represented Jigawa South West Senatorial District in 1999 and then again in 2003.
