In a recent interview with Arise TV, Ayra Starr spoke about how it feels being the youngest African artist to bag a Grammy nomination. 21-year old Ayra Starr has achieved a lot in just two years of launching her musical career. She became the most streamed female Nigerian artist in 2023 with her career streams crossing a billion. She also bagged a Grammy nomination for the 2024 category of Best African Music Performance for her hit single "Rush".

Ayra Starr has joined female artists of her generation like Tiwa Savage, Simi, Yemi Alade and so on to preach the Afrobeats gospel to the world alongside their male counterparts. Talking about her stage name, Ayra Starr revealed that she coined her stage name from a Yoruba name "Ira" which she changed to Ayra to fit her brand. She said Don Jazzy later added Starr to it to give it a perfect fit.
