Plateau State Speaker Rt. Hon. Abok Ayuba was impeached on Thursday by 8 of the 24 members of the House of Representatives.

It happened at an unusual meeting chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Saleh Yipmong.

Hon. Yakubu Sanda, the representative of the Pengana constituency, is now the new speaker.

notes that the speaker has come under fire since the riots that devastated some communities of Jos North and Bassa LGA, killing several people, injuring many, and displacing others from their ancestral homes.

The House of Assembly had given the governor of the state a two-week ultimatum to implement the resolutions it had passed on "Security issues and how to restore peace in the state".

The House of Representatives also urged the governor to come up with a statement in defense of citizens in light of the myriad security concerns plaguing the state.

It was found that the eight members already had access to the chamber at 6 a.m. to execute the impeachment.

They operated under the strong presence of armed security forces.

The legislature tried on Wednesday night to impeach the speaker, but was unsuccessful.

Hon. Nanbol Daniel (PDP, Langtang North Central) said the impeachment will not take place because it violates house rules regarding the impeachment of the speaker and deputy speaker.

The impeached Speaker of the Plateau State Assembly, Honorable Abok Ayuba, set up a parallel House of Assembly on Thursday and sanctioned members who led his impeachment.

Mr. Ayuba was charged in the early hours of Thursday amid an alleged dispute with Governor Simon Lalong.

Ayuba, who, along with 13 other members of the House of Representatives, chaired a plenary session with the symble of power outside of the State Assembly premises, cutting across party lines upheld a motion raised by the Deputy Majority Leader of the Assembly, Philip Dasun and seconded by the Minority Leader, Peter Gyendeng to suspend the six members

The suspended are the deputy speaker Saleh Yipmong, the Majority Leader, Na'anlong Daniel, the new speaker, Yakubu Sanda, the former deputy speaker, Ibrahim Baba Hassan, Eric Dakogol, Abubakar Balo.

During the emergency meeting in the hall of the Zawan Community Association in Jos, the members also voted to trust the troubled speaker and declared that they are committed to truth, justice, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, democracy, and the people. of the state.

Shortly after the meeting, the Chairman of the Information Committee of the House of Representatives, Philip Dasun, informed reporters: “The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria clearly provides for the impeachment of the speaker, it requires a majority of 2/3, we are 24, we must have at least 16 members to sign and confirm the impeachment of the speaker before it will hold.

he further explained that to the surprise of the members, they were in the house very early this morning and learned that an impeachment attempt had been made against the speaker. I went there and found seven people and I was the eighth person before the others arrived. We disagree with the preceedings.the governor is a lawyer, he knows the constitution, he will not accept this illegal procedure, if he does he will still have to struggle with his profession
