On Friday, the 8th of June 2022, Japan witnessed a tragic event. Shinzo Abe, a former Japanese leader was brutally assassinated while giving a speech. This took place in the early hours of the day which ultimately led to the untimely death of the former prime minister. This has caused a huge stir all over the media as to what went wrong and the several measures that should have been put in place to avert this tragic event.

It was discovered that Shinzo Abe was shot two times while giving his speech during a political campaign in the city of Nara. He was immediately taken to the emergency unit where he was said to be conscious and responsive, but he was shortly proclaimed dead. This was a result of how much his condition deteriorated which could no longer be controlled by the doctors in charge.

Several citizens of the country have taken to their social media pages to demand justice for the late prime minister. Hashtags such as “we want justice, Japan, democracy not violence” have been trending since the attack on the late prime minister. On the other hand, other notable leaders have spoken about their relationship with the late Japanese former prime minister and shared their condolences for his untimely death.

In the course of this event, a suspect has been arrested and said to be the gunman responsible for the death of the Japanese leader. The 41-year-old suspect named Tetsuya Yamagami is currently undergoing investigations in police custody. According to reports, the suspect was once a member of the Japanese maritime self-defense force, which he left in 2005.

It was said that the suspect carried out this operation with the help of a homemade gun. Further investigations have revealed lots of weapons and explosives discovered in the home of the suspect. Tetsuya Yamagami claimed that this action was executed as a result of a grudge held by the suspect against the late prime minister, Shinzo Abe.

Gun violence is an extremely rare occurrence in Japan and this will forever create a deep-seated fear in the hearts of many citizens. With the tragic turn of events in what was supposed to be a peaceful political campaign, ministers in the country have been asked to immediately return to Tokyo. This is indeed a terrible situation to witness and has left many in the country shaken. It might take a long while for citizens of the country to get over this sad event. As of today, a motorcade has arrived carrying the body of the late prime minister to his home in Tokyo.

Shinzo Abe was the longest-serving prime minister in Japan at the age of 67. Before his death, he had accomplished many a great feat, and it is extremely hurtful that he has met with his untimely death. This happened just before the elections which were supposed to take place in the early days of next week. Japan has indeed lost a great gem.
