Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on a return to Manchester United as the Portuguese labeled his first spell as "unfinished business ".

The former Real Madrid manager's probable return to Old Trafford has emerged as a sensational possibility.

An insider close to the 61-year-old manager reflects his willingness to work with the Red Devils once again despite his recent departure from AS Roma.

Several reports stated that Mourinho observed a return to Manchester United as a personal mission, driven by his desire to correct unfinished business left behind when he left the three-time European champions in December 2018.

His intention aligns with the possibility of working under the club's new administration, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, who just bought a significant share in the club's football operations.

The former Chelsea coach is eager to work with INEOS in an eligible football structure, long speculated to be the bone of contention in his first term at Man United.

Mourinho's first stint at Man United, which began in the summer of 2016, produced outstanding accomplishments, including lifting the Europa League and Carabao Cup in his debut season.

Despite a successive second-place finish in the English Premier League, pressures raged between Mourinho and the club's hierarchy, worsened by controversies over transfer dealings and on-field performances.

Analyzing his time at Man United, Mourinho has been candid about his challenges, particularly with certain players and factors within the club.

His recent comments on John Obi-Mikel's podcast highlight his enduring frustrations and skepticism about the environment he experienced during his tenure.

He said: "There are still people in that club, and when I say people I mean some players".

"But also some other people that are not players, that are still there when I told (United), with these people, you are never going to do it (be successful).

He added "And they are still there".

As United currently steers a transitional stage under manager Erik ten Hag, Mourinho's possible return enlarges an interesting layer to the club's narrative.

With the team currently sitting in ninth position in the English Premier League standings and their European campaign concluded, Mourinho's managerial prowess could offer an effective remedy as they strive to save their season in the FA Cup.

What is next for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United?

It remains to be seen if the former Sporting CP manager will secure a return to Manchester United as the club currently seeking European football next season.
