The All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial campaign in Ekiti state received a boost Tuesday as more than 1,000 members of the state's Labor Party (LP) joined the ruling party.

Defectors from all 16 local governments in the state vowed to work for the victory of the party's gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

Chief Olajide Awe, Chairman of the Mobilization and Contacts Committee of the Biodun Oyebanji Campaign Organization, welcomed the APC at a ceremony at the JKF Center in Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti.

The deserters, led by the President of the State LP, Eng. Banji Omotoso said they were attracted by Oyebanji's pedigree, quality and personality and had the experience to continue the state's developmental strides.

The deserters, presented with the broomstick, the symbol of their new party, also surrendered and tore up their cards to show their exit from the LP in exchange for the LP.

Awe reached out to new party members, who welcomed their decision to join the APC at a critical time, assuring them that they would be afforded the same rights and privileges as former party members.

"We would like to emphasize that once you have joined the APC, you are a genuine member with all the rights and privileges enjoyed by those you have come to know in the party," Awe said.
