Reports that is reaching us suggest that troops from the 82nd Division of the Nigerian Army killed no less than four armed men from the Biafra / Eastern Security network while conducting "Exercise Golden Dawn" in the south-east of the country in Nnobi in the state of Anambra.

The elimination of the IPOB fighters was announced on Saturday in a statement from the army's public relations director, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu.

Nwachukwu found soldiers neutralizing ESN fighters on Friday night in a shooting in Nnobi Junction, southern Idemili local government area, Anambra state.

The army spokesman noted that the operation followed the attack on security personnel stationed at the Ekwulobia roundabout in Aguata municipality.

It is worth remembering that the gunmen ambushed, shot and killed two State Department of State Services (DSS) officers.

However, Nwachukwu said that after the attack, the soldiers were quickly mobilized to the scene and pursued the criminals along the Nnewi-Nnobi road.

He added that the soldiers contacted the fleeing criminals, fought them and killed four of them. Unfortunately, the troop lost a member .

Nwachukwu noted that troops also thwarted another attack by IPOB / ESN fighters at the Umunze checkpoint in Orumba Sud local government area, claiming that the soldiers overpowered the secessionists in the ensuing shooting and forced them to flee.

The army spokesman also announced that the attackers had left behind a nine-shot pump gun, a dark blue Ford vehicle and four motorcycles.

He added: “The Nigerian military acknowledge that the recent attacks are part of the banned IPOB / ESN plan to scare the public and sabotage the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Anambra state.

The public is assured that the Nigerian military, related services and other security agencies will not slacken in resolute action against all criminal intentions against the citizens and the national interest.

Law-abiding citizens are encouraged to go about their daily business without fear.

They are also encouraged to report any unusual activity observed in the state of Anambra to the nearest security post,
