The match got underway at 5:30 pm as Julian Alvarez made the first pass at St James' Park.

The home team started the game on a high note as Longstaff looked to score through Alexander Isak's pass but the player was caught offside.

Ederson collided with Longstaff during the buildup. The Brazilian goalkeeper went down and had to be attended to before he could get back on his feet.

Shortly after, the Man City number 1 fell to the ground and was replaced by Ortega who started for the Citizens against Huddersfield during their FA Cup showdown.

Newcastle United man, Bruno was the first player to be booked after a late tackle on Mateo Kovacic in the 20th minute.

The visitors found the breakthrough in the 26th minute through Bernardo Silva's excellent strike.

Silva weaved his magic to put the Citizens ahead early in the match. Doku found Walker on the far right side and delivered a lovely ball.

Walker spotted Silva in the box, who finished with a silky back-heel touch to wrong-footed Newcastle goalie Dubravka.

Manchester City had another chance in the 33rd minute of play as Silva fired a powerful shot but Dubravka was in the right place to make a great save.

Isak brought Newcastle back into the game as he found the back of the net to level the score at 1-1 in the 35th minute.

Bruno Guimarães' sensational first-time pass down the middle located Isak. Walker tried to make a block but Isak scaled through from the left and curled an unstoppable effort across Ortega which drove into the top right corner.

Shortly after, the home team took the lead through Anthony Gordon's effort.

Gordon picked the ball up on the left touchline. He strolled infield, faced Walker, used the defender as a shield, and from the left-hand corner of the box, he curled a shot across Ortega and into the top right corner.

Seven minutes were added in the first half as Manchester City strived to find a way, but all efforts were blocked by Newcastle United who stood firm at the back.

The first half ended as both teams headed to the dressing room with Newcastle United leading by 2-1.

The second half started at 45 minutes after a short first-half break. In the 55th minute, Rodri drove down the middle and he was checked by Burn but he earned a free kick.

Alvarez took the kick and sent a fine effort towards the top-right corner. Unfortunately, Dubravka saved the effort to protect the home side.

Kovacic took a shot from distance. The ball took a huge deflection off Schar, but Dubravka was in no rush and was able to adjust and stop an effort that was headed for the bottom-right corner.

Man City made their first substitution as Kevin de Bruyne came on for Silva in the 71st minute of play.

The midfielder made an immediate impact by scoring for the visitors and brought the game to 2-2.

Newcastle United relied on and didn't make a substitute until the game entered into the final 10 minutes.

They made their first change of the game as Lewis Hall subbed on for Anthony Gordon in the 88th minute.

Kevin de Bruyne sent in another dangerous low ball from the right but again Newcastle defended it well.

Man City secured a late goal through Oscar Bobb's fine finish. Kevin de Bruyne sent a great pass to Bobb and the youngster registered his first Premier League goal.

The youngster brought the ball under his control and superbly, sidesteps the goalkeeper, and slotted it in.

The match ended as De Bruyne inspired Manchester City to victory with a goal and an assist on his Premier League return.
