The Lagos State Government has called for the immediate closure of Lekki Conservation Center following a video of its fracturing canopy walk.

A social media user known as Chude Nnamdi raised an alarm online a few days ago about the deteriorating state of the longest canopy walk in Africa which is located at the Lekki Conservation Center in Lagos.

The canopy walk which is over 72 metres above the ground and 400 metres long, is already fracturing and can break very soon. With its current condition, the center still accommodates visitors to access the canopy walk and this is detrimental to the safety of the public and visitors. Below the canopy walk, there is a thick swampy forest which is a habitat for deadly snakes, crocodiles, and other reptiles.

To prevent a major disaster from happening, the Lagos State government has ordered the closure of the Lekki Conservation Center for maintenance purposes from now till the 1st of February 2024.
