LASUTH is a public hospital that is located in the heart of Ikeja, Lagos State. Before Lasuth became a state University, it was previously established on June 29, 1955, as a small cottage hospital where it catered to the health of residents in Ikeja. It also served as a secondary-level healthcare facility for the residents of the community and was named Ikeja General Hospital. After many years, Ikeja General Hospital was restructured and equipped with modern facilities to assist in training Doctors and health professionals. It was renamed LASUTH after the transformation and residents received better healthcare from trained professionals immediately after it was reopened in 2001.

Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) is different from LASUTH. LUTH is located in Idi-Araba, Surulere, Lagos, and was established in 1962, unlike LASUTH which is located in Ikeja.
