Linda Ifeoma Ikeji (born 19 September 1980) is a Nigerian blogger, writer, entrepreneur and former model.[1][2] She is known for her blog and controversial publications online.[3]

Early life and education[edit]​

Ikeji was born and raised in a Catholic family from Nkwerre, Imo State, Nigeria. She is the second child. She began writing at the age of 10. She finished secondary school at the age of 17 and at 18, enrolled at the University of Lagos, where she studied English language. To assist her family and support herself through school, she had part-time jobs as a waitress, model and writer.[4]

Ikeji graduated from the University in 2004. In 2006, she started blogging as a hobby. At that time, the internet was not as prominent in Nigeria and she had to make her posts at a cybercafé.[5][6]

Professional career[edit]​

Ikeji started blogging in 2006.[7] She became an active blogger in 2007 using a blogger sub-domain lindaikeji.blogspot.com and later obtained her domain www.lindaikejisblog.com.[8] She also ventured into online radio broadcasting. The station is operated from the Linda Ikeji Media Office. Some of its programmes are broadcast live on Linda Ikeji TV.[9][10]

Ikeji also opened a music platform known as LindaIkeji Music which was launched on 21 November 2016, but it became dormant three months after the Launch.[11] She launched a social networking platform named Linda Ikeji Social on the domain name LindaIkejiSocial.com. Ikeji runs a non-profit project themed "I'd rather be self-made; No thanks". In her interview with HipTV, she revealed that through the project, she assists young girls aged 16–25 who have great business ideas and are willing to venture into entrepreneurship. She gave out the sum of NGN10,000,000 in Phase 1 of the project.[5]

In 2023, Ikeji made her debut into the Nigerian film production, by producing her first movie titled Dark October which centered on the Aluu Four lynchingstory.[12]

Recognition[edit]​

In August 2012, Forbes Africa dedicated itself to celebrating African women that month's issue. In that issue, Forbes profiled Africa's 20 Most Prominent Women and the issue featured profiles on two young Nigerian women: Linda Ikeji, as well as Chibundu Onuzo.[13] The name Linda Ikeji was the most searched item by users of Google in Nigeria[14] Ikeji shares new year resolution for 2020.[15]

Ikeji was interviewed by BBC on their Focus on Africa programme.[16] The interview aired on 25 September 2012.[17]

On 8 August 2018, Linda Ikeji was among eminent personalities drawn from different countries across multiple disciplines who were conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree from Trinity International University in Georgia for her outstanding job in Business and Media in Africa.[18] Others conferred includes Steve Egboro, Nigerian filmmaker and event manager, Chairman Daily Times Newspaper, Dr. Fidelis Anosike, Dr. Obeahon Ohiwerei, GMD/ CEO of Keystone Bank Limited, renowned lawyer Mike Ozekhome and few others.[19][20]

Controversies[edit]​

Ikeji has dealt with controversial posts which include the #SaveMayowa Campaign and also about celebrities such as Funke Akindele, Richard Mofe Damijo, Djimon Honsou, Wizkid and Tonto Dikeh.[21][22][23][24][25] She also made controversial publications about politician Doyin Okupe who described the publications as defamatory.[26]

Ikeji's blog was shut down on 8 October 2014 but restored on 10 October 2014 around midnight by Google for undisclosed reasons. Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google's West Africa spokesperson, said: "We take violations of policies very seriously as such activities diminish the experience for our users. When we are notified of the existence of content that may violate our Terms of Service, we act quickly to review it and determine whether it actually violates our policies. If we determine that it does, we remove it immediately."[27]

Ikeji revealing that she was pregnant was quite controversial as several ladies who looked up to her were disappointed at the fact that she preached celibacy and went ahead to get pregnant[28]

In 2018, the online editor for the Punch Newspaper, John Abayomi, threatened to file a lawsuit against Ikeji for untrue story about him being the owner of instablog9ja. He also claimed the publication puts his life and that of his family in danger.[29]

Personal life[​

Ikeji says she and her son's father Sholaye Jeremi are not suitable partners. She took to her blog to detail reasons why her relationship with her son's father, whom she met in December 2015, didn't work out nice as expected.[30]

Linda Ikeji blog (lindaikejisblog.com) and Seun Osewa’s forum (nairaland.com) has always been Nigeria’s most visited websites before the emergent of E-Commerce in Nigeria.
Linda Ikeji blog (lindaikejisblog.com) formally lindaikeji.blogspot.com is known for hottest news on News, Events, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Fashion, Beauty, Inspiration, Gossip Etc.
Nairaland.com on the other hand is a forum where users post anything under the earth like Politics, Crime, Career, Business, Investment, Romance, Jobs/Vacancies, NYSC, Programming, Education, Autos, Science/Technology, Webmasters, Computers, Phones etc.
The two websites has been chasing each other bumper to bumper, but I noticed a sudden plunge of lindaikejiblog.com from the 9th position according to Alexa.com to 17th position as at today 3rdSeptember 2016, one cannot but wonder why Naira land has maintained it position but Linda Ikeji blog dropped to 17th position.
The only thing I suspect is Alexa measuring system that was changed read more on Alexa Increases its Global Traffic panel and since Linda ikeji post alone with a few others and it cannot really stand the competition with naira land that has thousands of people posting different things every day.

Linda Ikeji is one of Africa most successful bloggers and has served as an inspiration to many other young people. She told us her story quite a number of times and one among them is the story of how broke she was before shae started blogging. She said there was a day she went to use the ATM but found out she only had 900 and the least she could withdraw was 500 and the minimum balance 500. She had nothing to do than return broken. That was three years back. Last December, she gave her fans cash running into millions just for been there.

Blogging is one of the simplest online business models I know and it works well with any niche provided you have what your chosen target audience need. But to be a successful blogger and make money online, there are a couple of things you must put into consideration.

Most bloggers just fumbled a couple of times before while trying to found their own successful blog. In the case of Linda, she got it right by chosen the celebrity, gossip and general entertainment niche. While that is not a very promising for a newbie, she was very fortunate to have risen to have come this far.

The next thing to do after deciding on a niche and audience is to pick a model. That may not be a deciding factor, but it helps you stay focus and soar high faster.

One important thing I stand against is using free domain and hosting. That is what broke Linda Ikeji. She was using a free domain and was hosted on blogger. I’ve criticize her blog on that ground previously, but proponents have felt she was successful and thus no need for that ignoring the fact that her success exposes her to complications as this. Other possibilities include the company folding or crashing of their servers which may lead to lost of data.

The host (blogger) in the case of LIB has the right to pull down the blog at anytime for any reason they feel violates their terms and conditions which you signed when creating the account. I once lost a blog too. I didn’t bother me because the blog was just a couple of weeks old.

At a point, I felt nothing will happen to LIB, but it’s quite unfortunate that blogger or google as the case maybe don’t care how successful your blog is, they pull it down at anytime. The question of copyright was just an excused to force her to patronize the blackmailer. In same light, I’ve written post on GossipHA and I saw it appear on a couple of blogs before. Some gave credits, some didn’t. Instead of feeling bad, I felt on point because I broke news and others copied from me.

Those working against her are professional domain squatters who took advantage of her ignorance or rather, negligence to milk her. They actually bought all her brand name domains with all extensions including the .ng domain name which goes for N15,000. Thus for buying www.lindaikeji.ng and www.lindaikejiblog.ng alone, they spent a total of N30,000. That is aside about 10 other extensions and variation related to the brand. Now that the blog has been pulled down, the only hope she have is the mobile version www.lindaikeji.mobi

The guys have not named a price for any of the domains yet, but it is definitely going to run into several millions. When I tried registering a domain name for Labaran Maku, I was shocked to find out thatwas registered. When I traced it, the domain was placed for $5,000 –that’s over 800,000. Its amazing how they expect you to pay that huge sum for domain the paid just a token.

To start a successful blog, choose a niche, target audience, model, get domain name and web hosting. There are a lot of blogging platform you can use. All you need is to get web hosting and install the software. I’ve always recommended WordPress (the software from wordpress.org not ).
