Liverpool smashed West Ham United at Anfield to progress into the semi-final of the 2023/24 EFL Cup.

The Reds were rampant on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, as they put on their scoring boots to decimate David Moyes' side.

Jurgen Klopp's side appears to be overwhelming favorites to land the trophy, with Chelsea being the other club tipped as a possible winner of the competition.

Dominik Szoboszlai put the Reds in front in the 28th minute, before goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo put Liverpool in cruise control just 19 minutes before the expiration of regulation time.

Jarrod Bowen reduced the deficit for the Hammers, but it ultimately ended up as being a consolation, as Mohamed Salah scored the 4th for the Reds, before Curtis Jones secured his brace in the 84th minute.

Liverpool are looking to reclaim the EFL Cup title which they won by defeating Chelsea on penalties in the 2021/22 season.

Manchester United are currently the defending champions of the competition, having defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in February 2023.

However, both the previous winner and runner-up have been ousted and as such, a new name will be penned on the trophy this campaign.

Liverpool are 9-time winners of the competition, and they breezed past West Ham United in sublime fashion, a manner which gives their fans the hope that they can become triumphant at the end of the day.

Fulham and Middlesborough are the other teams that are still left in the competition, and it will be interesting to see how they fare in the coming round.

Particularly Middlesbrough, who are the only club outside the top-flight remaining in the competition.

They are tutored by Manchester United and English great Micheal Carrick and he will be aiming to galvanize the club to success in the competition.
