Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi, Brentford's Thomas Frank, and England's Gareth Southgate, as possible replacements for Erik Ten Hag, if he is dismissed in the coming months.

The Red Devils have had a horrendous season under the tutelage of Ten Hag, with his future said to be plunged into uncertainty.

The INEOS group led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who are currently in charge of the football side of things at Manchester United are said to be considering firing Erik Ten Hag and appointing a new manager.

Ten Hag witnessed his side experience a slump from a high altitude, after going in front in the early stages at the Etihad against Manchester City.

The game against the Cityzens was the Dutchman's 100th game as boss of Manchester United.

Erik Ten Hag's current deal with the Red Devils runs until the summer of 2025, but reports are circulating that he could be dismissed at the end of the 2023/24 season.

This is due to British billionaire Ratcliffe refusing to guarantee the former Ajax boss position at Old Trafford.

Recent reports have also claimed that Manchester United players expect Ten Hag to exit at the end of the season.

There are also complaints bemoaning Erik Ten Hag's herculean and grueling training regime, which many have felt has affected the injury some players have picked up this campaign.

The INEOS group are keen on getting Manchester United back to its glory days and they have made some crucial appointments that signify intent.

Following the completion of their 27.7% stake acquisition in the English giants, they swiftly poached Omar Berrada from Manchester City to become the club's new CEO.

They are also intensifying efforts at getting Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United, in the hope of making him the sporting director of Manchester United.

This has also led to reports of the INEOS group appointing a new manager, with England's Gareth Southgate set to be in the mix as likely candidates.

Southgate's name being included in the list has been shocking to many, given that he is preparing England for the upcoming European Championship.

Gareth Southgate has also only managed one club in the past, namely; Middlesbrough, and his current deal with the Three Lions expires in December 2024.

It is uncertain if he will extend his stay with England until 2026, with the FA understood to be offering him a contract extension.

Meanwhile, Roberto De Zerbi and Thomas Frank are believed to be the leading names for the top job at Old Trafford.

De Zerbi would have to exit Brighton for the north of England, having relatively excelled on the south coast with the Seagulls.

Liverpool, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are clubs said to be interested in appointing the Italian and that will make it difficult for any club looking to get his services.

Moreover, Brentford's Frank is also one manager who has reportedly caught the eye of the top administrators at Manchester United.

Thomas Frank is said to be preferred for the role, due to Brentford's high-energy approach.

The Englishman's recruitment strategy has also been lauded for being based on data points that individuals like Sir Dave Brailsford favor.

Frank is also one name that has been rumored to have caught the eye of Liverpool, who are searching for a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, who will be exiting Anfield at the end of the season.

If Manchester United dismisses Erik Ten Hag in the next few months, they will have to pay the Dutchman the wages they would have paid him, if he remained at the club until the summer of 2025.

The Red Devils will also have to part with some finances if they want to appoint either Thomas Frank or Roberto De Zerbi.

Anyway, Erik Ten Hag can still save himself from getting himself into the good books of the fans and administrators, if he can qualify Manchester United for next season's UEFA Champions League.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has also recently stressed the importance that is heaped on qualifying for the Champions League.

The Manchester-based club currently occupy the 6th spot on the Premier League table, 11 points adrift of 4th-placed Aston Villa.
