Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing former Chelsea flop Timo Werner from RB Leipzig in January.

Manchester United are currently on the lookout for a reinforcement in their attacking department and they have reached out to the German club for Werner.

The former Chelsea player is reportedly unhappy with his lack of playing time at RB Leipzig, which he rejoined in 2022.

Despite scoring 16 goals last season, Werner has just bagged two goals in the new season in eight games and has only played 203 minutes.

However, there has been no official bid from the Red Devils so far, but Futballnews understands that the player is on Erik ten Hag’s “list.”

The German international has been previously linked with a move to Real Madrid, Fulham, Crystal Palace, and West Ham.

The Manchester United target was only able to score 10 goals in 56 matches for Chelsea across two seasons, which saw the interest to sign him dwindle.

Chelsea paid £47.5 million for Werner, who was part of the side that won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel in 2021.

However, the 27-year-old former Chelsea man ended up heading back to Leipzig a year later for £25.3 million.

Werner reportedly didn't enjoy his time in England because of the publicity and performance expectations from the media, according to BILD.

Werner has not been included in the German team lately; his last appearance for the national team was in the UEFA Nations League in June 2022, before Julian Nagelsmann became manager.

The striker has returned to England temporarily in preparation for Leipzig's Champions League group stage match at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City.

Werner began his professional career at VfB Stuttgart in 2013 and then signed for RB Leipzig in 2016, aged 20, in a then-club record transfer worth €10 million, where he set the record as the youngest player to reach 150 and 200 appearances in the Bundesliga.

Werner joined Chelsea in 2020 for a reported fee worth €50 million after becoming Leipzig's all-time top goalscorer, where he went on to win the UEFA Champions League in his first season at the club.

The German international later returned to Leipzig in August 2022 for a reported £25.3 million.
