Medical experts have warned that the country's cancer burden is getting worse and growing, citing statistics showing there are about 10,000 deaths from cancer each year, with 250,000 new cases, experts call on the federal government to include procedures in the national health insurance system to make cancer diagnosis, treatment and care more affordable and accessible to all who need it (NHIS).

At the 2nd International Scientific Conference organized by LUTH last week, Prof. Francis, Durosinmi Etti, Clinical Radiation Oncologist; and the teacherChris Bode, Pediatric Surgeon and Senior Medical Director at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) IdiAraba, spoke on "Multidisciplinary Care in Cancer Management" and said that cancer is not a cheap disease to be "cured" as it costs millions of naira.

A two-day conference titled “Advances in Cancer Treatment in the 21st Century” was held on May 24-25, 2022. Durosinmi Etti said prostrate Cancer is the most common type of cancer in men.

Every man over 40 should be aware of his prostate, although not all problems associated with the gland are cancerous. Women should also be on the lookout for signs of cancer in the breast, cervix, and anus regions so they can be caught early.

Fighting cancer requires teamwork because it's not a one-man show. Medical experts need to work together, enlist the help of other specialists, and involve patients so that the disease can be better controlled and even cured.

Those who cannot be cured can be treated effectively, resulting in longer life and a better quality of life."
