Nigerian woman breaks Guinness World Record for the longest handmade wig
A Nigerian woman from Lagos state has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest handmade wig. She has been identified as a Helen Williams. Helen is a Nigerian wigmaker. She recntly created a wig which bro the Record for the world’s longest handmade wig. The wig she made is 351.28 metres in length which is 1,152 ft 5 in.
Helen spent about 11 days to complete this wig. She also spent a total of 2 million naira to make this wig, which is £2,031 or $2,493. She revealed the materials she used for the wig and shared that it wasn't easy getting those materials. She used about 1,000 bundles of hair to make the hair with 12 cans of hair spray, 35 tubes of hair glue, and 6,250 hair clips. She shared that the ony thing that made it slightly better was that she already had experience as a wigmaker.
She mentioned that while making the wig, she felt tired and exhausted af some point. It had been encouragement from friends anf family that got her going. She disclosed that she has been a professional wigmaker for 8 years. She mentioned that she makes about 50 to 300 wigs in a week and has also trained lots of students over the years.
She shared that this is one of the best things that has happened to her. She says she is still findig it hard to believe she could make it She also spoke about the challenges she faced while making the wig. She stated that it was hard finding a large space to lay out the wig so she can measure it well. She had visited even a running track but she didn't get one that could accommodate the full length of the hair.
She revealed that she made the hair on the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway. This was a long road which accommodated the hair length. Helen has shared that she keeps the wig in her office so any interested person can take a look at it.
