The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended their 2-day nationwide protest, giving the government an ultimatum to meet their demands.

The NLC started a 2-day nationwide protest over the current economic hardship from 27th to 28th February 2024, making yesterday the first day. The NLC marched across major cities of the country yesterday, pouring out their grievances to the government. Following the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting yesterday, the NLC has suspended the protests, saying they have achieved the objective of the protest on the first day.

The NLC has issued another 7-day ultimatum to the FG till 13th March 2024 to implement all the earlier agreements of October 2023 and other demands presented in their letter during the nationwide protest. The NLC said the demonstrations will, however, continue with various press conferences across the state councils including the National Headquarters in Abuja.

"Consequently, NEC-in-session resolved as follows: to suspend street action for the second day of the Protest having achieved overwhelming success and thus attained the key objectives of the 2-day protest on the first day. However, nationwide action continues tomorrow with simultaneous Press Conferences across all the states of the federation by the state Councils of the Congress including the National Headquarters.

The NLC NEC also resolved in its meeting, to “reaffirm and extend the 7-day ultimatum by another 7 days which now expires on the 13th day of March, 2024 within which the Government is expected to implement all the earlier agreement of the 2nd day of October, 2023 and other demands presented in our letter during today’s nationwide protest."
