Nottingham Forest could face a points deduction if found guilty of breaching the Premier League Financial Fair Play rules.

It was revealed that the Premier League side will know their fate later in January 2024.

Nottingham Forest believes that they have worked within the jurisdiction of the case and will work actively to defend it.

Since the beginning of last season, when Nottingham Forest got promoted to the Premier League, they have signed 42 players.

They have been cautioned by the English FA that they need to solicit funds at times. The transfer of Brendan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur was important to balance the account.

Before Johnson moved to Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest turned down a huge bid for the winger.

The new guidelines introduced by the English FA said all Premier League sides should submit their accounts for the 2022–23 season on December 31, 2023, with any breach of the Financial Fair Play rules to be confirmed by January 2024.

The new guidelines will make it possible for punishment to be imposed on time coupled with points deduction in the Premier League in the same season.

The new guidelines also permit clubs to lose a maximum of £105 million over three years. In the 2022–23 season, Nottingham Forest lost £45.6 million.

The English FA said because the Nottingham Forest side were in the Championship for three years, the amount they were permitted to lose is smaller compared to the £105 million.

Nottingham Forest's current financial loss is £61 million.

What Nottingham Forest said after the English FA attempted to penalize them if they were found guilty

After hearing that they are likely to receive a point deduction for the violations of the financial fair play, Nottingham Forest took to their social media account, saying, "The club has fully complied with its reporting obligations concerning the Premier League’s revised profit and sustainability rules."

“Promotion to the Premier League will always create challenges, and the treatment of promotion bonuses is just one such example."

“The club approaches all such challenges with its long-term financial sustainability firmly in mind, as the Premier League rules intended.”

Other Football Clubs That Are Currently Charged With Breaching Financial Fair Play

Manchester City were charged with more than 100 breaches of the Financial Fair Play in February 2023. However, the case has not been decided.

Chelsea have also breached the financial fair play between 2012 and 2019.

They are likely to face a points deduction if found guilty. Everton, who were found guilty, had their points reduced by 10.

They are also facing other pending cases that may see further deductions of points.
