Ondo State Gov., Rotimi Akeredolu, dies at 67​

The Governor of Ondo State Rotimi Akeredolu who recently embarked on a medical leave has died at the age of 67. Before his demise, he transferred the state affairs to the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, when he embarked on a medical trip abroad on the 13th of December. Akeredolu's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Richard Ololufe, had revealed in a statement signed on December 12th that the governor would be leaving for Germany for a follow-up test.

Today, the 27th of December, the news of Akeredolu's demise was revealed to the media. He reportedly died after suffering from a prolonged battle with Leukemia, otherwise known as the cancer of the blood. A family source confirmed the death of the governor to Sahara Reporters on Wednesday.

Rotimi Akeredolu was a Nigerian lawyer and politician who was born on the 21st of July, 1956. He served as the Governor of Ondo State from the 24th of February, 2017 to the 27th of December, 2023. His tenure was cut short by his illness which required him to embark on long medical leave to seek medical attention.
