Members of the Rivers State All Progressive Congress (APC) have announced in a statement that they are open to welcoming anybody who is willing to join their political party from PDP. This statement was signed and released by the Rivers State spokesperson for the State APC Caretaker Committee, Mr. Chibuike Ikenga. He said that the party has welcomed 27 lawmakers who were former members of the PDP to APC, and it's willing to welcome more of them.

Ikenga stated that the state APC is excited as more lawmakers have defected from the PDP. This means they can collaborate with them to better the governance of Rivers State. He also said, "We are happy about this (lawmakers defection), and we expect that others will join so that we can swell the ranks of the APC and run the state properly. The defection of the lawmakers is a welcome development."

There has been a division among the members of the PDP political party which accounted for their defection to the opposing party, APC. The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has called for an emergency executive council meeting to promptly discuss the defection of the 27 lawmakers of the State House of Assembly from the PDP to the APC.
