Over 288 dead and hundreds wounded in India train crash
Over 288 people have been killed in a terrible train crash in India just recently.
It was a three train crash which happened on Friday.
This is the worst and deadliest train crash in over 20 years, according to officials.
Pictures from the crash scene have surfaced on the internet and indeed, it is a terrible site. Some parts of these trains were completely smashed from the collision.
Some coaches had turned over completely as a result of the collision.
A train had derailed to another track and not more than few minutes later, another train had crashed into it causing some coaches to turn over and some parts of the train smashed together.
Rescue workers were dispatched to the scene immediately as rescue operations began. They looked for survivors amidst the wreckage and those who were already dead were laid out on the tracks.
The director General of Odisha Fire Services, Sudhanshu Sarangi revealed that the death toll stood at 298 people.
He also revealed they were still carrying out rescue operations. He mentioned many were also severely injured and have been taken to hospitals. Several ambulances numvering over 75 were on site as well as some buses and the conveyed these people to different hospitals who had spaces available.
It was said that over 850 people sustained injuries of varying degrees.
The Prime minister of India, Narendra Modi revealed that the train accident caused him distress.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims via twitter.
