Pep Guardiola has expressed that Manchester City are hungry to win the 4th unprecedented Premier League title in a row.

Guardiola made these comments after watching his side secure a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at St James' Park.

The Cityzens turned up the heat in Tyneside, with Eddie Howe's side also providing fans with a thrilling display.

Newcastle United thought they had gone in front in the 2nd minute of the game after Alexander Isak squared the ball to Sean Longstaff, who tucked the ball away impressively.

However, their joy was short-lived after Isak was adjudged to have been offside when the initial attacking pass from Kieran Trippier was made.

Bernardo Silva took Manchester City ahead in the 26th minute, before the Magpies turned the game around in 2 minutes, courtesy goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

The Cityzens had other ideas in the second 45, as Kevin De Bruyne inspired Pep Guardiola's side to a comeback victory, netting the equalizer and setting up Oscar Bobb for the 3rd.

Speaking after the game on the performance of his players and their desire to win the Premier League title, Guardiola said: “This team is hungry and wants to win the PL title again”

He also talked about the outstanding impact of Kevin De Bruyne, who came into the game and completely turned it around.

Pep Guardiola added: “Kevin de Bruyne is pure talent. It’s not about tactics, it’s about talent”.

De Bruyne joined Manchester City from VFL Wolfsburg on August 30, 2015, for a fee of €76 million.

The Belgian has made 360 appearances for the English club, scoring 97 goals and providing 155 assists in all competitions.

Kevin De Bruyne is the captain of the Manchester-based club, having been made captain following the departure of IIkay Gundogan in the summer of 2023.

De Bruyne has shown that he is a credible captain, leading the club through difficult phases and turning games around.

It will be intriguing to see his performance levels when he hits into gear properly, as Pep Guardiola is still trying to ease him into the line-up.

The 32-year-old was a second-half introduction for Manchester City in the game against Newcastle United, replacing Bernardo Silva in the 69th minute.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola, in lauding the input of Kevin De Bruyne emphasized that the Cityzens need players like him to win games.

Guardiola said: “With the way we play it was quite similar without him but to win games we need players like Kevin or Erling Haaland”

Haaland is currently in the treatment room due to a foot injury that he sustained on December 10, 2023, with the Norwegian's return date relatively unknown but said to be in the coming days.

Manchester City face Tottenham Hotspur next on Friday, January 26, 2024, in a Round 4 FA Cup encounter.
