Manchester United signed Omar Berrada from Manchester City as the club's new CEO to replace Richard Arnold.

Omar Berrada's defection from Manchester City's top football leadership to rivals Manchester United has come as a surprise.

Berrada established himself as one of the best football administrators back in Barcelona in Spain before joining Manchester City in 2011.

He has played a great role in the emergence of Manchester City as a domestic and European football powerhouse over the years.

Despite his scorecard with City, there has been much fuss about the capabilities of the Spaniard to overturn Manchester United's dwindling fortunes.

First, City's rise could not be attributed to Berrada alone. An overlap of larger factors such as the quality of the players, the coaching staff, and the revenue pool, including inputs from other administrators shaped City's footballing fortunes.

Manchester United will definitely have to evolve an enabling environment for Berrada to chart a path off the current rot at the club.

Breaking his silence since City lost Omar Berrada to Manchester United, Pep Guardiola, who has worked with Berrada for eight years, offered insights on Omar Berrada's chances at Manchester United including how United can benefit from Omar's wealth of experience.

According to him, it will not be an easy task for Berrada as the quality of players does shape a club's footballing fortunes.

Guardiola pointed to Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne as two key players that will give City an edge over the cross-city rivals despite Berrada's move.

He said;

‘'Maybe United think that with this person, everything is going to change — congratulations. If it does happen, then my God, they have to make a stand for Omar Berrada in the future because he’d deserve it.

‘Kevin De Bruyne is still at Man City, Erling Haaland will keep playing here, so it’s not that simple like that."

Berrada's move to Manchester United has been seen as another big win for United and Man United new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is intent on transforming the club's fortunes after his £1.3bn partial ownership deal with the Glazers.
