Petr Cech, a former Chelsea and Arsenal shot-stopper has named the three greatest goalkeepers to have ever graced the beautiful game.

The 41-year-old is respected as one of the best to have played in the English Premier League, making over 633 appearances in England’s top flight.

Petr Cech enjoyed massive success with the Blues, winning multiple league titles, domestic cups, and the Champions League among other trophies.

During that time, the former Czech international kept a record of 397 clean sheets across all competitions.

He also holds the record for most clean sheets (24) in a single English Premier League campaign.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Cech was asked to name the top three goalkeepers of all time.

When Cech was asked to pick who were the best goalkeepers, he replied; "A first question, a tough question, but definitely I put Gigi Buffon in there".

He added; "Definitely Neuer will be in there. It’s always difficult to leave so many great ones out, but Peter Schmeichel will be my choice in there as well".

The 41-year-old was quick to name Gianluigi Buffon who recently retired after spending nearly 30 years in between the sticks.

Once upon a time, the Italian legend was the world's most expensive goalkeeper following his move from Parma to Juventus.

The Premier League winner then clarified that he would put them in that order when naming a top three, citing the World Cups won by Buffon and Neuer as key reasons. The Italian won the tournament in 2006 after a penalty shootout against France whilst Neuer was champion in 2014.

The German came through the ranks at Schalke but has been at Bayern Munich for over a decade, winning the Champions League twice. His ability to be a sweeper keeper has also seen him hailed over the past decade.

Schmeichel meanwhile was one of Sir Alex Ferguson's star assets and helped Manchester United dominate through the 1990s before departing after their treble triumph. Alongside Cech, he is regarded as one of the Premier League's greatest goals.

Petr Cech, on the other hand, has currently switched to an ice hockey player who plays as a goaltender for Belfast Giants, on loan from Oxford City Stars.

He chose to wear the number 39 jersey in honor of Dominik Hasek, a 59-year-old Czech ice hockey goaltender.

Then, Cech said he would continue his role as a technical and performance advisor at Chelsea whilst playing ice hockey in his spare time. He however left the role after Todd Boyle and his consortium took over the Premier League club.

He was named the man of the match on his ice hockey debut on 13 October, after stopping two penalty shots in a shoot-out victory and making several other crucial saves.

After winning a treble with Guildford Phoenix in the 2021–22 season, Cech signed for the National Ice Hockey League Division 1 side Chelmsford Chieftains in November 2022.

In June 2023, after one season with Chelmsford, he signed for fellow Division 1 side Oxford City Stars.
