Popular Nigerian Nollywood actor, O. Kanayo has hailed Super Eagles frontman Victor Osimhen, for his efforts, after the Super Eagles’ succeeded over Cameroon in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

It is no news that the Nigeria national team did well against their fierce rivals, Cameroon, at the ongoing Africa's most prestigious tournament in Ivory Coast where they have recently booked a spot in the quarterfinals following a 2-0 win over Rigobert Song's men on Saturday, January 27.

Following the Super Eagles' success, popular Nigerian filmmaker Kanayo showed his excitement about the achievement, the Nollywood actor praised Victor Osimhen for his excellent performance, declaring him the Footballer of the Year.

He further stated that the Napoli striker has proved the qualities expected in a player of his caliber.

The 61-year-old lawmaker also congratulated Nigerians, emphasizing that greater accomplishments come with greater expectations.

He added that to whom much is given, much is expected.

Speaking about Osimhen's performance against Cameroon, Kanayo said; "When. Victor Osimhen has shown the stuff a Footballer of the Year is made of. To whom much is given.. Congratulations Nigeria. Football lives here".


Nigeria vs Cameroon in brief;

Nigeria eliminated Cameroon in the round-of-16 clash between the two teams to secure a place in the quarter-final of the tournament.

The Super Eagles scored earlier through Semi Ajayi’s rebound after a long press in Cameroon's area.

However, the goal was disallowed after a VAR intervention, center referee from Morocco Redouane Jiyed ruled the goal as offside.

Ademola Lookman was the star of the game, scoring twice as the Super Eagles demolished fierce rivals Cameroon in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday night.

Osimhen battled the ball from Cameroon defender Oumar Gonzalez and set Lookman up who fired a shot that trickled home under goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa in the 36th minute to give Nigeria their first goal.

Again, Bassey crossed from the left and Lookman met it first time at the near post to slot the ball home in the 90th minute making it 2-0.

Who is Kanayo?

Kanayo O. Kanayo is a Nigerian film actor and lawyer who was born on 1 March 1, 1962, in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria.

Kanayo started his acting career in 1982, He made his debut movie appearance in the year 1992 in the film Living in Bondage.

He has featured in numerous Nollywood films including Lion Heart and the sitcom Professor Johnbull, however, he is known for playing the role of a Villain in these films, especially in productions relating to occultic practices.

He has received the order of the MFR.

Kanayo was among several Nigerians honored by the government in 2014 during the centenary celebration.

Coach Jose Peseiro and his men will now shift attention to their next game where they'll face Angola in the quarter-final on Friday, February 2, at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.
