The year 2023 has obviously come to an end, and we are in 2024, but anyway, this article intends to put the spotlight on teams with the most losses in the year 2023.

Tides turned around for different teams, some from good to bad, and some even from bad to worse.

A surprising, or not so surprising inclusion in the list is Chelsea FC. In 52 matches, Chelsea lost a whopping 23 matches, a 44.23% losing percentage.

2023 was a year that saw Chelsea change coaches due to a poor run of results. 2023 started with Graham Potter at the helm. Potter didn't have a successful stint. Although his team didn't perform so poorly, the major issue was finding the back of the net.

Chelsea eventually went for Frank Lampard as an interim manager to see them through till the end of the 2022/23 season, but it also didn't end well with Lampard who lost six out of his nine league matches in charge.

The season came to an end, and Chelsea ended the season 12th on the log. Chelsea in a bid to rebuild the squad opted for the option of going for younger players - one of the visions of the 'Todd Boehly' era.

In the 2023 summer, Chelsea came out to splash the cash in the transfer market, spending approximately £435.5m - the most by any club during a transfer window in the Premier League.

Not forgetting the January transfer window, where Chelsea spent not less than £323m to ship in new players.

All of these players signed did not hit the ground running particularly with their price tag - the likes of Enzo Fernandes (£106.8m) Mykhailo Mudryk (£88m) and Moises Caicedo (£115m).

The 2023/24 season hasn't been going too well for the English side with Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, they've lost 8 out of their 20 Premier League matches, a losing percentage of 40%.

Hopefully, Chelsea can turn the tide in the new year as fans are increasingly becoming impatient.

Now away from Chelsea who sit 4th on the list, let's take a look at the remaining teams starting from the top.

Sevilla are 2nd on the list, with 24 losses out of 62 matches, there's also Nottingham Forest who sit just above Chelsea in third place with 23 defeats in 47 matches.

Nottingham Forest didn't have a good time they had an injury-shaken squad thus making the most of their matches.

In fifth place comes Bournemouth with 22 losses out of 44 matches, a 50% loss percentage.

There's also Everton in sixth place with 22 defeats in 46 matches. Werder Bremen sits seventh with 21 defeats in 36 matches - a loss percentage of 58.3%.

In Eighth place comes Empoli, the Italian outfit also have a 50% loss percentage, losing 21 of their 42 matches. In ninth and tenth respectively come Nantes and Valencia who have both lost 21 of 47 matches.

Hopefully, these teams can turn it around in the new year, and produce magnificent results that are appealing to their supporters.
