President Tinubu appoints Yemi Cardoso as new CBN governor
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Yemi Cardoso as the new governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He approved the nomination of Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the new CBN Governor on Friday, September 15, 2023.
Dr Yemi is set to serve as the CBN governor for a term of five years. Dr Yemi born and bred in Lagos is a graduate of Aston University where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Managerial and Administrative Studies in 1980. He is a banker, chartered stockbroker and also an expert in public policy.
Dr yemi is married with 5 children. He served as the Chairman of Citibank Nigeria Ltd for 12 years until he resigned in 2022. He was also honored with a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) (honoris causa) in 2017 by Aston University.Dr Yemi's father who is Felix Bankole Cardoso, was the first indigenous Accountant-General of Nigeria and this was in 1963.
President Tinubu also approved the nomination of 4 new Deputy Governors for CBN. The Deputy include Mr. Muhammad Dattijo, Mrs. Emem Usoro, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.
