In a recent interview, Shallipopi said neither him nor anyone around him was hopeful about the future because coming from a place like Benin, he had slim chances of becoming a successful artiste. The Edo-bred singer said he felt only those in Lagos and Abuja had the potential to make it big in the industry because they didn't have the spotlight.

Shallipopi said it was not until Rema got signed a deal with D'Prince and Mavin Records that he realized that there was light at the end of the tunnel. Rema and Shallipopi are both from Edo state. He revealed that he has been a fan of Rema before he became popular. He used to follow him on Instagram, and watch his freestyle videos till he dropped his trap EP.

Shallipopi said he adopted Rema's style and started dropping freestyle videos. He had that strong determination and belief that one day, life will smile at him and he will become a superstar like Rema. He was even determined that even if nobody signs him, he will do it all by himself and achieve his goal.
