Robert Lewandowski has revealed that Lionel Messi was elated when he spoke to the Argentine about a possible Barcelona return.

Lewandowski talked about how his meeting with Messi went at Laureus Awards in an interview with Interia Sport.

The Polish international revealed that Messi’s reaction was expected after the Argentine had spent most of his career at Barcelona.

Lewandowski said: “Keep it a secret, but when I told him about Barcelona, his eyes lit up.“

“And it’s not surprising, after all, he grew up here; he has a house here that he visits often. Barcelona is his home,” Lewandowski added.

Lionel Messi has been heavily linked with a return to Barcelona this summer as he is yet to finalize a contract deal with the French club.

Lewandowski mentioned that he would love to have the 2023 World Cup winner back at Camp Nou when he was asked about Messi’s return.

“I’ve always liked playing with players who understand football. And Leo is top-notch. Also, Messi has changed his style of play a bit in recent years, today he is more of a ’10’, a midfielder,” Lewandowski concluded.

Will Lionel Messi return To Barcelona?​

Lionel Mess’s contract will expire at the end of the season but it is still unclear if the Argentine will remain at Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona on the other end are trying to get him back to the Camp Nou where he achieved everything he did at club level.

Barca boss, Xavi, confirmed that the deal to sign Messi is still up in the air due to some factors and financial constraints being the major one.

For now, Lionel Messi still remains at PSG for now and he will travel to the team to Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on May 27 with a win enough to crown them league champions.
