Roma fans turned Estadio Olimpico into a rallying ground to express their support for their former manager Jose Mourinho.

In a shock but expected decision by Roma hierarchy, Jose Mourinho was sacked following Roma's dwindling fortunes in Serie A. The Portuguese was shown the exit door after the Giallarossi suffered two consecutive defeats against AC Milan in Serie A and Lazio in Coppa Italia quarterfinal.

They crashed out of Coppa Italia and also dropped to 9th on the Serie A table. An emotional Jose left Roma training ground fightIng back tears after his sack.

While the Portuguese seemed to have lost the backing of Roma's hierarchy, Roma fans begged to differ from the club's decision-makers as they expressed their support for the former manager in heart-rending tributes.

In Roma's first match against Hellas Verona after the sack of Jose Mourinho, a larger section of Roma fans snubbed Roma's victory over Verona, and turned Estadio Olimpico into a rallying point to protest the decision to sack Jose Mourinho.

They flooded banners which carries carefully-worded tributes to Mourinho.

All the banners shows captions defending Jose Mourinho while aiming a subtle dig at the club's American owners.

"eternal glory...It was a pleasure having you on our side ... thank you, Jose," some banners read.

Mourinho joined Roma in 2021 signing a four-year contract which was set to expire in 2024. The Portuguese had six months remaining on his Roma contract. Sources close to the club revealed Jose Mourinho was fully committed to the Roma project - a claim he justified when he revealed he turned down a juicy Saudi offer last summer to stay put with the club.

He won the maiden edition of UEFA Europa Conference League with the club, and led them to 2023 Europa League final. Despite his dwindling fortunes at the Roma dugout this season, Mourinho was still popular with the club's fans who have blamed the owners Dan Friedkin for the club's dwindling fortunes.
