Sergio Rico, Paris St-Germain goalie, is out of a Coma of three weeks after a horse riding accident that happened in May.

Rico, 29, had the accident while he was participating in an annual pilgrimage in the El Rocio region of Huelva in Spain in May.

The goalkeeper’s family as at that time said: “A serious mishap due to a mule cart and a horse that hit him”.

Rico’s wife, Alba Silva, also confirmed he is awake and recovering “little by little” at the Seville hospital.

Alba, while speaking to Telecinco, said: “[He’s] taking small steps forward and the truth is that we already see the light a little more.”

“Little by little he is recovering and I knew from the beginning that he was going to get better because he is a champion.”


Sergio Rico, a former Sevilla keeper, spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Premier League side Fulham.

The Spanish international then joined PSG on a season-long loan before making a permanent move to the Paris team in September 2020.

Rico has made 29 appearances for the French Ligue 1 Champions since moving to the French capital.

What Happened To Rico?​


Sergio Rico suffered a head injury in a horse-related accident in his native Spain on 28 May 2023.

The PSG shot-stopper was hospitalized at the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío in Seville, with his condition being described as “serious”.

Rico received numerous messages of support, notably from Paris Saint-Germain fans, players, directors, and his former club Sevilla’s players, who wore a shirt in his support prior to the Europa League final.

During PSG’s final league match of the season on 3 June, fans unveiled a tifo in his honour, while players sported the player’s name on the back of their shirts in the first half; in the 16th minute, in reference to Rico’s number 16 jersey. He was applauded as captain Marquinhos lifted the winners’ trophy while wearing Rico’s name.

Sergio Rico​

Sergio Rico González is a Spanish footballer who was born on 1 September, 1993 and plays as a goalkeeper for PSG.

The Spaniard quickly established himself as a talented goalkeeper, displaying excellent reflexes and shot-stopping abilities.

Rico began his career at Sevilla, where he twice won the Europa League while featuring in 170 competitive matches.

He subsequently signed with Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, initially on loan and permanently in 2020.


Rico made his senior international debut for Spain in 2016, and was chosen for the year’s European Championship.

Sergio Rico was given the Sport award at the Young Andalusia Prizes in 2016, receiving his honour from regional president Susana Díaz, a fan of city rivals Real Betis.

Rico’s home in Neuilly-sur-Seine was burgled during a match between PSG and Montpellier on 22 January, 2021.

His father died in March, and teammate Navas dedicated his penalty save against Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16 to him.

Sergio Rico is married to his beautiful wife called Alba Silva, a 28-year-old model and Instagram star.

The couple met in 2016 and they wedded in 2022 and their union has birthed a son.
