A lot of Africans believe there are supernatural powers and voodoo being used by football players to succeed on the pitch to the determine their opponents.

Although it has not been proven that the players use juju in football, there have been events in the past that have brought concern and attention to the popular black magic.

These are the Six Times We Heard of Juju in Football

1. Supporters believed Chelsea legend Didier Drogba was using Juju.

The Ivory Coast legend was subjected to persistent trolls on Twitter regarding the use of African magic.

Many fans believed the striker rose to fame and relevance at Chelsea because he had a way of inflicting injuries and terrible form on different strikers.

The former Chelsea striker performed at the highest level, winning the Champions League and the Premier League during his stay with the London side.

2. Supposed Curse of Yaya Toure on Pep Guardiola at Manchester City .

Manchester City legend Yaya Toure was bullied out of the Football club after Pep Guardiola first year at the club.

Supporters believed that the poor handling of Yaya Toure was the sole reason the manager failed to win the Champions League at the club.

However, the supposed curse was broken by Pep Guardiola in the 2022–23 season, as the football club defeated Inter Milan in the Champions League final through a Rodri goal.

3. Romelu Lukaku was accused of using African black magic.

The Belgian striker was accused of using Juju by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2021. The former Manchester United striker accused Lukaku while he had a face-off in an intense match between AC Milan and Inter Milan.

After the clash, Zlatan said, "Call all your moms; do your voodoo thing.”

4. Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo received a voodoo threat

The witches of the world have said they paid attention to the Al Nassr attacker in 2009. A witch said back in 2009 that she was paid a hefty amount of money to purposely injure Ronaldo while he was playing for Real Madrid.

However, the claim was regarded as stupid by Real Madrid's then-spokesman.

Since 2009, the striker has scored numerous goals in all competitions, alongside winning numerous trophies.

5. Paul Pogba brother Mathias Pogba accused The former Manchester United midfielder of placing a curse on Kylian Mbappe.

In 2022, Mathias Pogba accused his brother Paul of going to the witch doctor in an attempt to place a curse on his fellow national teammate, Kylian Mbappe.

After the brother statement, Paul Pogba revealed the fact that his brother was trying everything possible to discredit him in public due to family issues.

6. The Cameroonian female national team attempted to put Voodoo in the Super Falcons Goal Post

In the Olympic qualifier match between the Super Falcons and the Cameroonian female team, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the Super Falcons, a video surfaced online showing Cameroonian women running towards the Super Falcons goal post in an attempt to put black magic in the net after impressive saves made by Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

However, the Super Falcons players stood their ground, with Asisat Oshoala and goalkeeper Nnadozie stopping the Cameroonian player Annie Enganemben from touching the goal net.
