New statistics reveal a significant decline for Manchester United and Manchester City this season, while Chelsea have showcased improvements despite some inconsistent performances.

In a revealing comparison of points earned from this season's fixtures versus the same matches last term, it's evident that both Manchester clubs have lost ground.

Chelsea on the other hand have managed to accumulate six more points compared to their 2022/23 tally.

Manchester City, under Pep Guardiola's leadership, faces a stark contrast, accumulating 12 fewer points this season.

Their local rivals, Manchester United, are also trailing, currently seven points short compared to their previous campaign.

Manchester City's recent league record of five wins out of six encounters, coupled with three losses this season against Wolves, Arsenal, and Aston Villa, starkly contrasts with their performance in the corresponding fixtures last term, where they had secured seven more points.

Points difference from last season as of matchday 17

A Manchester City fan, reacting humorously on social media, expressed disbelief, with one fan jokingly admitting, "We cannot compete."

Bernardo Silva was also asked whether Manchester City are still capable of putting together long winning runs:He had this to say "Do you doubt us?"

Manchester City's squad will find encouragement in their ability to surpass such a narrow points gap in the past, leading to their eventual triumph and lifting the trophy.

Meanwhile, Manchester United, led by Erik ten Hag, has experienced a tough run with seven defeats in their initial 17 league games against teams like Tottenham, Arsenal, Brighton, Crystal Palace, City, Newcastle, and Bournemouth.

The comparison of points between this season and the last reveals disparities:

Arsenal are down by one point, Aston Villa and Tottenham are up by nine points each, Chelsea showcasing a six-point improvement, Liverpool with a four-point rise, City trailing by 12 points, and United lagging by seven.

Chelsea's upward trajectory despite their current 10th-place position is noteworthy.

Mauricio Pochettino's impact seems evident as the team's six-point improvement has been augmented by significant draws against Liverpool, Arsenal, and City, alongside a 4-1 victory over Spurs.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa and Tottenham have both significantly increased their points tally by nine, and Liverpool also finds itself in a better position compared to last season.

However, Arsenal and Newcastle are marginally worse off, each with one less point than their previous campaign.
