Jack Diamond, who plays for Sunderland allegedly raped and sexually assaulted a woman he met on a dating app, a jury has been told.

Prosecutors expressed that Diamond assaulted the woman at his home in Falstone, Fatfield, Washington on May 7, 2022.

Jack Diamond whilst appearing at Newcastle Crown Court has denied raping and sexually assaulting the woman.

However, the woman has informed the police that she agreed to a “cuddle” but wanted to “physically throw up” after being attacked.

In commencing the prosecution case, David Povall said Mr Diamond and the woman had initially gotten acquainted with each other via the dating app Tinder before the footballer contacted her and asked her to visit his home.

The woman agreed to come over to his house for a “cuddle” but the jury heard that during the time of the visit, she was using certain pills which meant she had to stay away from sex.

Via a recorded police interview played to the jury, she said that the assault “felt like it lasted forever”.

Sunderland had suspended Jack Diamond in March 2023 when he was indicted for rape and sexual assault.

He was on loan at Lincoln City when he was charged and the club abruptly ended his deal.

It was also said in court that when Diamond got into bed with the woman they began cuddling, however, after a while, it “became clear that Jack Diamond was keen on more”.

Mr Povall said that the woman “eventually” consented to some sexual activity, and woke up after some time to meet the Sunderland man “caressing her”.

Prosecutor David Povall said that the woman requested that the footballer desist from the act as she wasn't in the mood, but he continued.

Povall added that it was only following several protests and begging that he stopped what he was doing.

Mr Povall said that the alleged victim saw Diamond sending messages on his phone and was scared that he was communicating with Anthony Patterson, his housemate, who had “previously raised the possibility of a threesome”.

Patterson, 23, is a goalkeeper for Sunderland, and he has represented England at the Under 21 level.

Povall added: “The woman was said to have been afraid of the possibility of a threesome happening and messaged a friend, requesting for assistance.

Subsequently, Jack Diamond asked her to exit the apartment and her friend arrived to meet her, meeting her in a “very emotional and distressed state”.

The woman recounted to the police in an interview played in court that after the first sexual assault she “turned over and cried”.

She also alleged that Diamond “grabbed her wrist” and was “quite aggressive” during the activity, expressing to officers that “It was like a switch had gone off.”

Jack Diamond admitted that he had sexual intercourse with the woman, but it was a consensual act and that the alleged victim was “jealous and possessive”.

Two of the likely jurors expected for the trial were removed to ensure justice and fairness after both declared that they were Newcastle United season ticket holders.

The 15 potential panelists were told to indicate whether they were season ticket holders for either Newcastle United or Sunderland.

They were also asked if they would attend the FA Cup 3rd round clash involving the two teams on Saturday, January 6, 2023.

Jack Diamond has played for several clubs in his career, including; Harrogate Town and Lincoln City.
