Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has earned massive praise after scoring his first goal in 2024.

Umar Sadiq opened his record in Real Sociedad's 3-2 victory over Granada on Saturday, March 9.

During the game, Umar Sadiq scored the match Real Sociedad opener in the 33rd minute after the hosts, Granada, had taken the lead in the 21st minute via a penalty kick.

Unfortunately, the home team restored their lead before the end of the first half but Real Sociedad bounced back in the 80th minute and got the lead in the 85th minute courtesy of Andre Silva’s strike.

The Nigeria International was replaced by Andre Silva in the 68th minute before he went on to score the winning goal for the visitors two minutes from time.

The 3-2 win pushed Real Sociedad to the 6th place on the league table with 43 points in 28 games, following 11 wins, 10 draws, and 7 setbacks.

So far in the 2023-2024 season, the 27-year-old who spent most of the season battling different levels of injuries has scored just three goals for the Spanish outfit.

While Real Sociedad were celebrating the remarkable away victory, Umar Sadiq was encouraged that he had finally ended his goal drought in the league. The 27-year-old Nigerian striker didn’t score in 18 games before the game against Granada.

How Real Sociedad reacted to Sadiq Umar's goal

While praising Real Sociedad’s goalscorers against Granada, head coach Imanol said; "Today they have been calmer and that is why they have surely scored the goals. They come to them phenomenal, to feel important, because they have also served to add three points away from home".

He added; "There is no doubt that it is very important. I am transmitting peace of mind to them but in many games, as a result of that anxiety, they have done things that they did not have to do".
